(More customer reviews)I found this product Online, spoke to the owner of the company and immediately ordered mine! The PC-5 is worth every penny and then some! I am a hugh solar advocate and have many other solar chargers in my arsenal. Because of the speed at which this charges from the sun, I now use it to charge other solar chargers because they see the PC-5 more as a USB wall charger than a solar charger. This means these other chargers will be ready for use faster than they charging themselves! That is amazing!! I have used it to charge my phones, iPods, and even my iPad. As time marches on, I am sure that more applications will present themselves. I will conduct a race between the PC-5 and Voltaicsystem's Amp Solar Charger to see which one charges my Solio hybrid Solar Chargers faster just out of curiosity. I love both the PC-5 and the Amp Solar Charger and have already strongly recommended them to friends and family!

PowerFilm Battery Charging Kit Review

(More customer reviews)I own a few PowerFilm products and generally recommend the brand wholeheartedly, but this kit is a complete 180 from what I have come to expect from PowerFilm.
The charger simply cannot handle variable input. Given that it's sold as a kit with a meager 5 watt pannel, this is unacceptable. If there's any interruption to the flow from the 5 watt pannel (like momentarily casting a shadow on the pannel) the charger freaks out and says the batteries are bad. You have to unplug the panel from the charging unit and plug it back in for it to reset and resume charging. If you don't reset the charger, it will simply sit there and say BAD even though full power has resumed into the unit. I was using this with brand new Sanyo Eneloop batteries which I know are just fine.
Another negative aspect of this product: I though this would be a bit of a "souped up" version of the Powerfilm Usb Aa Solar Panel Charger (an excellent product!) which will supply power to the USB port either from the AAs alone, or through the pannel if the AAs have at least a decent charge. With this unit however, the USB port CANNOT BE POWERED FROM THE BATTERIES.
There are a few cool things about the charger -- it's one of the few that I've seen that doesn't need the batteries to be paired (so you can charge just one battery or three if you wanted to). The visual indicator of charge is also very cool (shows 20% increments). The built-in AA to AAA socket adapter is also convenient (I've used other products where the adapters were separate bits that are easily lost). But these do not make up for the deficiencies outlined above, for my purposes.
The charge-times seem relatively accurate ~ 2hrs per pair of AAs. I noted that once the charger says the batteries are FULL, if you disconnect power to the unit, then plug it back in a second later (literally), the charger will say the batteries are at 80% (or less!) and won't go back to full for maybe 30 minutes or more. What gives? I'm not sure I entirely trust its ability to detect charge capacity anywhere near the granularity the display implies.

(More customer reviews)This product (KODAK Solar Charger KS100-C+2 - Solar charger 2 x AA NiMH 2100 mAh) is very similar to another under the UltraLast brand name (UltraLast Green Solar 2 AA/USB Charger with 2 AA Everyday Precharged Batteries). The two chargers' electrical specifications are similar. The differences being:
- The Kodak charger is black, while the UltraLast charger is white.
- The Kodak charger is slightly more weather-resistant. Its USB port is covered by a rubber seal when unused.
- The Kodak package contains only a USB-USB charging cable. The UltraLast package includes two extra adapters for mini- and micro-USB ports - very useful for cell phone charging.
As to the solar charger itself: it may seem like a very versatile, multi-functional product. However, upon closer examination, those functions turn out to be poorly implemented:
1. The solar panel is quite small (4x7cm). Even under direct sunlight at noon time, with the panel perpendicular to the sun beam, the maximum charging current is just 100mA. In real life it will take about 3 sunny days to fully recharge a pair of 2100mAh cells. When I placed this solar charger under the windshield of my car, the charging current dropped by 50% because the glass is UV-filtered.
2. When powered from an USB port, the two internal AA cells are continuously being charged at about 180mA. The problem is there is no 'charging done' signal. The little LED indicator simply remains on forever, even when there are no batteries inserted. You have to unplug the USB cable after about 14 hours, to prevent over-charging of internal batteries.
3. When used as a USB power source, the 5V output it generates is limited to 300mA max., which is lower than the 500mA from a normal USB port. I have used it successfully to recharge my Philips GoGear Aria MP3 Player, using a generic 'USB to mini-USB' cable. However, I'm unable to use it to recharge someone else's Kodak Easyshare camera, because the current requirement is too high.
So in summary, the Kodak Solar charger is yet another example of "Jack of all trades, master of none". It is still a reasonable value if you can use it as a cell-phone charger. Too bad there are no phone adapters included in this package.

(More customer reviews)have had this for a little over 2 weeks and it works good. it even gives a slow charge to batteries under normal indoor light. I tried it outside and it charges batteries fast and with no batteries in full sun it charges my cell phone well through the usb port. indoor light is not enough to run the USB with enough juice to charge a phone, but it does charge batteries indoors and can use the batteries to charge a USB device.
Under solar power only it is not enough to run some of my higher demand devices but it does most fine, and when running of 2 AAs it runs the USB hot enough to charge most anything I have.
All in all it seems a good unit and I paid less than $20 for it with shipping I recommend it to all my friends,
The only design flaw is that the little loop at the top is not quite big enough to fit a carbeener through so I had to attach a keyring to it in order to clip it to the outside of my pack. perhaps in the future they can mold it with a slightly larger opening.
