Nikon MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack for Nikon D300 & D700 Digital SLR Cameras (Retail Packaging) Review

When using the MB-D10 with the D300, you will find that it is a great improvement from the MB-D200 (the D200 vertical grip). For one, it is made of magnesium alloy, and is much sturdier. It is also weather sealed like the D300 body. It fits nicely and firmly with the D300. It also has an additional multi selector, which is a great added feature. The MS-D10 (holder for AA batteries) also comes in a very nice pouch. Of course with such improvement comes the price increase as well!
If you want to achieve 8fps on your D300, you can use the EN-EL4/a battery with your MB-D10 or AA batteries (8 pieces). The ability to use AA batteries is a real plus point. Imagine having a long trip where you may not have access to charge your EN-EL3e batteries. Having the ability to use AA batteries means that you can carry a bunch of them and still be able to shoot... even deep in the wilderness.
Another advantage of the MB-D10 is that it is not L-shaped, which means that you can easily slip it into your camera bag and pull it out when you need it. To mount the grip, you do not need to remove the battery from your camera and marry the grip to the camera as how the D200+MB-D200 was designed to. It does not take as much space and not as awkward as grips that are L-shaped. This is a versatility of the MB-D10, but also has some getting used to.
Here are some areas which either you like or hate or take some getting use to:
1. The battery in the camera need not be removed to use the grip. So for those who leave the grip on all the time and want to use 2 batteries at a time, it would mean that you would need to remove the grip each time you want to remove the battery in the camera. It would be nice to be able to swap both batteries without having to remove the grip, but the design is such and we would have to live with it. What I've decided to do is to remove the battery in the camera and just use the one in the MB-D10. Besides, you can get a lot more shots with the D300 than the D200 for the same battery charge.
2. The shutter release button on the MB-D10 is a bit too sensitive, which means that you can quite easily trigger the shot. The sensitivity between the shutter-release button on the camera and the grip is different, so when switching orientation of the camera, you'll need to be aware of the sensitivity so that you do not accidentally take a shot which you did not mean to do so.
3. The MB-D10 can take the EN-EL4/a battery. However, the battery chamber cover for the EN-EL4/a is not part of the package, and you would need to purchase it separately. The battery chamber cover is BL-3.

Opteka Battery Pack Grip for Nikon D80 & D90 Digital SLR with 2 EN-EL3e Batteries (4000 mAh Total) Review

So, I was going crazy reading reviews for the Nikon grip and the Opteka grip. My conclusion was that the Opteka is the exact same thing as the Nikon based on the reviews. Only difference is Opteka lacks the Nikon brand name printed on the grip.
I spent the day in Chicago taking pictures and it was awesome not worrying about running out of battery life. The batteries that come with seem to work great! It's an over all great value.
I gave this product 4 out of 5 stars because I'm not thrilled with the plastic that the grip is made out of. I think it could be better but I had read that its the same as the Nikon and for the huge price difference, I think I can do without the Nikon brand name. I also read that the Nikon shutter release is VERY touchy/sensitive. The Opteka shutter release works great. I've yet to encounter any problems with this product and I would highly recommend it.
Incase you were wondering, the Opteka grip can be used with a tripod. I had a little bit of trouble finding that info out before I bought it so there it is!
***:::UPDATE:::***
Ok, so, I just bought the Nikon battery grip and I just wanted to say that the Nikon grip is better. When I have my Nikon 80-200mm lens attached, the Opteka grip felt a little weaker. The Nikon grip has rubber on it and the opteka does not. I feel that my grip with the Nikon grip is much more satisfactory. The Nikon grip is also a little smaller. There is NO WAY that the Opteka company used the same molds as Nikon to make this product. It's bigger and has a very different feel and look. The Opteka isn't terrible and I would recommend it if you're on a budget. Performance wise, its just as good as Nikon.

The Opteka BP-D80 for the Nikon D80 & D90 holds 4 AA Batteries or 2 EL-EL3 batteries. This provides a extremely extended shooting time. The vertical shutter release also makes shooting with the camera in a vertical position just as comfortable as shooting horizontally. Compatible with the Nikon D80 & D90 digital SLR only.

Canon BG-E3 Battery Grip for EOS Digital Rebel XT Camera Review

Canon BG-E3 Battery Grip for EOS Digital Rebel XT Camera
Average Reviews:

This is a well-made accessory that makes the Rebel XT or XTi very comfortable to hold, either horizontally, or especially, vertically. Several camera controls are replicated on the grip (shutter release, AE lock button, AF point selector, AE compensation, and command dial) for ease in shooting vertical formats.
I'm used to the Digital Rebel, which fits my hand almost perfectly. I found the Rebel XT to be a bit too small. It felt OK with a 50mm 1.4 lens, but I found it hard to hold steady with a 70-200mm f/4 "L" zoom, or with a Canon 420EX flash attached. The battery grip adds extra room for holding the camera, and helps balance the lens or external flash by moving the center of gravity down and towards your hand, making the combination much more comfortable to hold and steady.
The grip works great with two NB-2LH batteries. I was more intrigued with its ability to use 6 AA batteries. Canon advises this option is for "emergency use" but after reading the supplied literature, the explanation for this worrisome statement became clear: Canon expects fewer shots from 6 AAs than from 2 NB-2LH batteries. You may try different types of AA batteries. I have found that the BG-E3 provides very good results with Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. These batteries have long shelf life and maintain adequate voltage longer than most other AA rechargeable batteries. I also have used Energizer disposable lithium batteries with no problems.
I plan to leave the battery grip on my camera all of the time. I probably will use it most with two NB-2LH batteries, but like having the option of using the included AA battery holder, when necessary.

Specifically designed for the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT and Digital Rebel XTi cameras, the BG-E3 battery grip doubles your length of shooting time by accepting two NB-2LH batteries, six AA batteries, or a DR-700 coupler. The BGE3's vertical shutter release makes vertical shooting just as comfortable as horizontal shooting.

Targus TG-BGXTI Battery Grip for Canon Rebel XT/XTi Review

Targus TG-BGXTI Battery Grip for Canon Rebel XT/XTi
Average Reviews:

I got this product from Amazon's promotional offer for only $26.99. I enjoy the transaction. It is very compatible with Canon Reble XTI just as designed exclusively for the camera. It's easy to instal and use. I won't worry about the battery being used up during the trip with two packs of 2LH batteries in the grip and 6 AA batteries for back up (for emergency only). With the battery grip the camera looks more professional and solid especially with the L-lenses on the camera. The camera is heavier than without the grip to avoid motion when taking pictures. The vertical shutter button is very convenient to use. The best thing is that the price is only 1/4 of the Canon original counterpart. I strongly recommend it.

Zeikos ZE-CBGT2 Battery Power Grip for Canon Rebel T2i Camera Review

I purchased this grip with hesitation because I read many negative things about after-market grips online. Some reviewers were complaining about quality, looks, built, flaws etc. However, when I received this product I was completely satisfied. The grip looks and feels great. You can see the battery indicator in the LCD screen which was one of my worries. It looks like the original product and matches 100% with the camera finish. Do not hesitate and buy this Zeikos battery grip. You will not be disappointed. Save some money and invest it in another lens.

Battery Grip BG-E8 for Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i SLR Digital Camera + 2x LP-E8 Lithium Ion Rechargeable Batteries Review

Battery Grip BG-E8 for Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i SLR Digital Camera + 2x LP-E8 Lithium Ion Rechargeable Batteries

I was a bit skeptical about buying an aftermarket battery grip for my new Canon EOS Rebel T2i (550D in other parts of the world), but since using it I have nothing but good things to say about this part.
I recently took a short vacation to Mt. Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota and had this grip installed for the entire three day trip. I took hundreds of photos and a lot of video. Note also that I'm not an 'old-school' photographer that likes to use the viewfinder but rather prefer to use 'Live View' screen mode which eats the batteries much more quickly. The batteries that came with the grip lasted for the first two days before running low. I had another set and was able to keep on shooting. I also like the included AA battery tray which gives you the option of powering the camera with six AA batteries (which could be a real life saver in a pinch!).
I would rate the feel, fit & finish and quality of this part to be on par with the camera itself. The plastic and grip are nearly identical to the camera. The controls function perfectly and make portrait position photos more comfortable than I've ever experienced. I have large hands and the comfort factor is the biggest reason that I purchased this to begin with as the normal landscape position is more comfortable as well.
Anyone who has picked up the T2i (550D) knows instantly that it's not a heavy camera and actually is a bit on the lightweight side. This grip with two batteries actually improves the balance by adding heft and size which can create a much better user experience.
The only thing I would caution is to consider buying the package with four batteries to allow for change-outs if you don't already have spares. That said, I highly recommend this product over the $170 OEM grip from Canon (which doesn't include extra batteries) and even if you don't have the spare batteries you can get by on AAs if you need to.
*Update - 11/10/2010
I've now been using this battery grip for about four months and still have nothing but good things to say. The rubberized 'grip' has held up well with no noticeable signs of wear. The battery life hasn't seemed to have diminished with time and use. There have been some negative comments by other users but I still stand by my original comments.
*Update - 4/12/2011
This part has continued to hold up well. The only thing I've noticed is that the printing on the grip by the buttons has worn somewhat as opposed to the printing on the camera itself which has held up with no noticeable wear. Clearly the manufacturing process at Meike is not up to the same level as it is at Canon. That said I have enjoyed flawless performance from this part and it hasn't left my camera since I received it. The batteries have held up equally well.

Zeikos ZE-NBG90 Battery Power Grip for Nikon D80 & D90 Review

Zeikos ZE-NBG90 Battery Power Grip for Nikon D80 and D90
Average Reviews:

I'll go straight to my points
PROS
- Easy to install, no brainer
- Perfect fit with the D90
- It's the closest and best thing you could get to an MB-D80 for about $70... sweet
- Works as expected
CONS
- There is a delay in response when turning the dials, but not to the point that it will annoy you.
- The material (plastic) could have been sturdier if they made it a little thicker.
- The dials of the D90 and this grip are not of the same feel.
Overall, I am still pretty satisfied with this product considering how much I paid for it. The most important thing
is, IT WORKS PERFECTLY.
